My Bio
Writing has always been in my blood. In grade one I was one of the youngest kids to be taught to use the computer. Teachers and therapists thought that because of my disability and speech impediment, a computer would be a great asset to me. Four years later, my teacher really liked my stories for creative writing class. I was inspired when she put an intriguing title on the blackboard and said "write the story." Creative writing came to me naturally. One week after reading my story, she predicted that I would be a published author one day.
I've been writing stories since meeting that teacher in grade four. My attention turned to novels during the summers when I returned home from Carleton university in Ottawa. I really liked touring the College Street neighbourhood when working for Abilities Magazine. I was attracted to the distinctness of the streets in this neighbourhood. So, one morning on the bus to work I opened my laptop and began what turned into Regaling on College Street. Coincidentally enough, my Master's in English at Carleton become the inspiration for my second unpublished novel /short story collection, Reading our Contemporaries. This work is similar to Regaling in that it is a multiple-narrative, but different in that the ten narrators are searching to validate their friendships, rather than celebrating the memories.
Besides fiction, I've always been an avid sports fan. Sports itself is a narrative. I'm also interested in sports as metaphor. This past year, I've expanded my literary interests. I have a desire to test unknown waters, and to combine the elements. Currently, I'm developing an epic centering around friends and relatives competing for eternal one-upmanship.
